Codex

Every record, kept like a dossier

NPCs, creatures, locations, factions, shops, deities, clues, quests and journals, each on a sheet shaped for the job it does at the table.

  • Purpose-built sheets: an NPC reads like a dossier, a creature like a combat instrument(In the current build)
  • Secrets and GM notes kept apart from what the players may learn(In the current build)
  • Your own record types, with fields and colours you define(In the current build)
  • Filters for forgotten prep: never used, planned but never reached, not tied to anything(In the current build)

Relationships

A campaign that knows how it connects

Ties between records carry a type, a direction and a secrecy level. The Campaign Graph shows the whole web and traces how any two records connect.

  • Structural, story and secret ties, each drawn differently(In the current build)
  • Campaign Graph and Matrix views of every record and tie(In the current build)
  • Trace a connection: the chain between two records, story-only or with secrets(In the current build)
  • Place related records near each other on the desk and the tie appears between them(In the current build)

The Desk

A GM screen that arranges itself around you

A zoomable workspace where records become cards you summon, arrange, pin and dismiss, so what you need tonight stays within reach.

  • Summon any record with Ctrl+K without leaving the table(In the current build)
  • Pan, zoom and a minimap; pin, lock and snap cards to a grid(In the current build)
  • Saved layouts per scene, and reusable layout prefabs(In the current build)
  • Reference cards for web pages and PDFs, plus notes, clocks and undo(In the current build)

Sessions

Plan the night, run it, carry it forward

Build a session outline from beats and campaign material, run it from a live cockpit, then wrap up what actually happened.

  • Session builder: drag records, encounters, maps and read-alouds onto beats(In the current build)
  • Scene Runner and a GM bar with Jot, names, DCs, clocks and rules lookup(In the current build)
  • Mark material reached, deferred or skipped, and carry it into the next session(In the current build)
  • Wrap-up turns runtime notes into campaign canon(In the current build)
In the current build
A session plan titled Session 33, The Foundry Below, with beats, expected party and loose material.

Encounters

Encounters built from your campaign

Drag creatures, NPCs, places and treasure onto an encounter. Canonex works out the threat and keeps each participant separate.

  • Threat from trivial to extreme, calculated for your party(In the current build)
  • Every creature its own participant; Elite and Weak adjustments by the rules(In the current build)
  • Creature sheets with the combat summary kept above the fold(In the current build)

  • A change log for every record and tie, grouped by session(In the current build)
  • Open threads, quiet threads and returning faces on the campaign Home(In the current build)
  • “Last time we saw…” on every record(In the current build)
